Goodyear is Developing Tires That Inflate on Their Own

Goodyear is Developing Tires That Inflate on Their Own – Goodyear is about to simplify the operations for a good number of drivers. Maybe not this year, but the tire manufacturer has announced the development of a system that allows the wheels to inflate themselves, avoiding the noisy air compressors at service stations. The invention known as Air Maintenance Technology (AMT), is fully contained within the tire, and it doesn’t need any kind of pump or external electronic devices, it gets activated simply by the movement itself.

Attached to the pressure sensors, the tires with AMT would be able to stay in good running conditions without any maintenance, increasing safety and improving fuel efficiency. The truth is that most people rarely ever look at the pressure of their wheels, so even though it seems that the sole purpose of this technology is to save time for the driver, this technology would benefit everyone in every aspect that you imagine. Well, except the owners of those noisy air compressors at service stations.

Goodyear is currently finalizing the development of these tires using funds from the Department of Energy of the United States and the European Union, but is hesitant to talk about prices and availability on the market at the moment, saying only that “while technology is complex, the idea behind the AMT system is relatively simple.” Hopefully its simplicity has a positive impact on the added cost, because no one is very happy when we have to change our flat tires.
